A friend ( name not made public but lives in Walla Walla WA), sent me this story and picture:
I was standing on Pennsylvania Avenue in the early 60's just about the time LBJ was moving in.... Along comes this olive drab telephone truck....coming out of the White House gate, that as it got closer to where I was standing, it hit a bump. A tan Call Director phone that was loaded on the back of the truck bounced out and hit the pavement right in the exact spot that I had been standing! Had I not moved, it would have surely struck me. After picking it up, I realized that it was JFK's desk phone at the White House. It has been in my private collection ever since. The case is cracked and I am in process of fixing it. I am also attaching a 4A speaker phone that also fell off the truck, along with some other stuff.
Originally there were some attachments to the phone, he removed them, but he is in the process of restoring them. He also has the original designation strip and will put it back on the phone.
My friend now has the phone fully working, on a 1A2 Key System and has attached a 4A Speakerphone.
